Drawing / Painting Course with Van James

Dear Friends:

We are pleased to announce a new workshop for teachers and educators connected with Waldorf or Steiner Education. Mr. Van James from Hawaii will be coming to Iloilo to give a two and one half day intensive workshop on art—painting and drawing from kindergarten to class 8—from October 27-29, 2010. The cost of the workshop includes all art materials, plus board and lodging (shared room – double occupancy). The venue for the workshop will be the St. Clements Retreat House in Iloilo City. All art materials will be provided. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from Iloilo and from Iloilo airport to and from the venue. Kindly see attached poster for more information and for sharing with interested colleagues. Kindly note that spaces are limited and will be reserved on a first-come-first-served basis.

The course will begin at 9:00 am on October 27 and end at 12:30 on October 29. Rooms are available on the evening of October 26 for those wishing to arrive a day early, but meals will not be served on this day. During the course, breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks will be provided for those staying in.

Van James is a teaching-artist at the Honolulu Waldorf School and the Kula Makua Teacher Training program in Hawai’i. He is a regular, visiting instructor at Rudolf Steiner College in California, Taruna College in New Zealand and the Chengdu Teacher Training in China. He is chair of the Anthroposophical Society in Hawai’i, and a member of the Asia-Pacific Anthroposophical Initiative Group. He is the editor of Pacifica Journal and author of several books on art and archaeology including Spirit and Art: Pictures of the Transformation of Consciousness and The Secret Language of Form: Visual Meaning in Art and Nature. He holds a BFA degree in drawing and painting from the San Francisco Art Institute, and is a graduate of Emerson College, England, and the Goetheanum School of Painting in Switzerland. He lives in Honolulu with his wife, has four grown children and four grandchildren.

Workshop: Gymnastics, Drama, Movement-Feb 12-16

5-Day Intensive Workshop: February 12-16, 2010. Iloilo City

Gamot Cogon Institute, in partnership with Rudolf Steiner Education Philippines, is pleased to offer a 5-day intensive workshop in Gymnastics, Games and Drama to be held in Iloilo City from February 12-16, 2010. The course will explore thinking, feeling and willing in drama, bothmer gymnastik and games. The course will also introduce folk dances from all over the world. The course is open to all practicing Steiner teachers and those who have attended teacher trainings and orientation workshops on Steiner Education. (Special arrangements for others who might be interested to attend will be considered on a case-to-case basis).

Arrivals in Iloilo are planned for February 11 and the course proper will begin on the morning of February 12. Because the course falls over a weekend, we will also plan activities for the afternoon of Sunday, February 14, but the morning of Sunday will be free. The course will end in the late afternoon of Tuesday, February 16.

The course facilitator will be Ms. Kirsti Frahm. Kirsti is a practicing Steiner educator from Germany with 17 years experience, specifically in physical education, gymnastics, bothmer gymnastics, games, “Olympic Games” as well as teaching swimming. She has also undergone drama training and for the past seven years has worked as an actress, directs class plays and offers seminars in pantomime and drama. She has offered trainings and workshops for teachers and other interested adults in addition to her ongoing work with children. She has performed in Italy and many places in Southern Germany. Her work with drama can be viewed as an entry point for work with different kinds of theatre, street drama, rhythm, various kinds of walking, scenes, clowneries, and temperaments. No previous experience is necessary.

The course will be an introductory experience that will provide suggestions, ideas and practical experience in working artistically with children, adults and even for one’s own development.

Participants should bring a suit jacket or special funny dress. Clothing and footwear should be comfortable to enable free movement.

The venue will be at St. Clement’s Retreat House in La Paz, Iloilo City. The cost for the course is P5500 (local); US$150 (foreign) which includes course fees, board and lodging. Transportation to and from Iloilo and to and from the venue will be shouldered by the participants.
